J.D. Requirements for All Graduating Classes

In order to receive the J.D. degree, a student must:

  • satisfactorily complete 88 semester credits
  • six semesters of residence* as a law student
  • satisfactorily complete required courses
  • be in good academic standing

* student must be registered for 12 or more credits in a given semester to count toward residency

First Year Requirements (30 total credits):
Civil Procedure I and II: 6 credits (Fall/Spring split)
Constitutional Law I and II: 6 credits (Fall/Spring split)
Contracts: 4 credits (Fall)
Criminal Law: 3 credits (Spring)
Legal Research & Writing: 3 credits (Fall/Spring split)
Property: 4 credits (Spring)
Torts: 4 credits (Fall)
Second Year Requirements:
Professional Responsibility: 3 credits (Fall OR Spring)
Second year writing requirement:
(either Journal or Moot Court)
Credits vary (Fall/Spring split)
Third Year Requirements:
Third year writing requirement:
(through qualifying seminar, Independent Research paper, journal editorship, or moot court directorship)
