Greetings, First Year (1L) Students!

We look forward to welcoming you during Orientation 2008, to be held at the Law School August 27-29.

The Orientation program is designed to introduce you to the Law School, answer your questions about our community, and give you the opportunity to meet your classmates. Since the information provided at Orientation is critical to your success at the Law School, your attendance is required.

Prior to Orientation, students will receive an Orientation packet containing information on child care, financial aid, housing, and many more topics. The same information is available at this site for your convenience.

We hope the materials will help you plan your arrival and ease your transition into the Law School community. These materials, as well as additional helpful information, are available on this site.

In addition to a variety of informational and administrative sessions, the Orientation program includes social events, where you’ll have the chance to meet faculty and staff, get to know your fellow 1L’s, and mingle with upper-division classmates. We encourage you to invite your partner, spouse, or a family member to the social events we’ve planned and to the Law School Parents & Partners session on Thursday, August 28.

Here are some tips to remember in attending Orientation:

  • Dress casually and comfortably. Bring a backpack or totebag.
  • Bring cash or a checkbook to pay for administrative items (lockers, books, parking, etc.).
  • Remember the barbeque for new students (optional) at 5 pm on Wednesday, August 27. It’s a great way to meet everyone.

If you have any questions concerning Orientation, we encourage you to contact the Orientation Director at lsorient@umn.edu. We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,
