Greetings, Transfer and Visiting Students!

We look forward to getting to know you at Orientation 2008, which will be held August 26th at the Law School.

The Orientation program is designed to introduce you to the Law School, answer your questions about our community, and give you the opportunity to meet your classmates. Since the information provided at Orientation is critical to your success at the Law School, your attendance is required.

Prior to Orientation, you will receive an Orientation packet for Transfer/Visiting students that includes a variety of information. You will also receive a 1L Orientation schedule, and you are encouraged to attend any of the 1L Orientation activities that you might find useful. The same information contained in the packet is available at this site for your convenience.

These materials will help you plan for your arrival on campus and ease your transition into the U of M Law School community, so you'll want to review them carefully.

We look forward to welcoming you as a full member of our Law School community, with opportunities to meet with upper-division classmates, faculty, and staff.

Since we know law school impacts more than just our students, we encourage you to invite your partner, spouse, or a family member to the social events we've planned, and to the Law School Parents & Partners session scheduled for Thursday, August 28th.

Here are some key points to remember:

  • Orientation attire should be casual and comfortable.
  • Bring cash or a checkbook for administrative items (lockers, books, parking, etc.).
  • You must activate your University e-mail account and obtain your University identification card (U Card) PRIOR TO Orientation 2008.

If you have any questions concerning Orientation, we encourage you to contact the Orientation Director at lsorient@umn.edu. We hope you enjoy the summer and look forward to seeing you in August!

Sincerely,
