International Studies
The University of Minnesota Law School provides its students with numerous opportunities and programs for international legal study. Whether students seek to study abroad, to mentor one of our foreign students or to study the technical aspects of international law from a faculty expert, the Law School provides the academic environment necessary to prepare lawyers for their role in a global society.
The Faculty
Minnesota’s professors of international and comparative law link our students to the globalization of trade, constitutional reform, human rights and the environment. The faculty’s international scholarship, supported by the outstanding resources available in the Law Library, relates directly to such real-world legal issues as the settlement of international trade disputes, the relationship between constitutional reform and market economies, the enforcement of human rights standards, and the interdependence of domestic and international regimes to protect the environment.
Our carefully cultivated student exchange relationships with leading academic institutions around the world allow students and faculty to immerse themselves in other legal cultures. J.D. students study abroad for an entire semester. No additional tuition is required.
Mirroring the extensive trade and political ties that exist between Minnesota and the People’s Republic of China, the Law School has developed a five-week program with the prestigious China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.
